Here We Go Again

Back when the Berlin Wall came down and Gorbachev was introducing glasnost and perestroika, the West was clapping it's hands in glee in anticipation of Russia shaking off the shackles of communism and becoming part of the democratic free world. There was even talk about Russia being our friend and ally and many had pipe dreams that our troubles with Russia were over.

I have never trusted the Russians, never believed that they were our friends. Russia may have put on a new coat of paint but they basically haven't changed. All that happened is that one bunch of thugs took over the leadership of the country from another bunch of thugs.

Putin is a thug, a KGB thug and I don't care how many times he smiles and poses for the cameras with our President, the man and most of his government are enemies of America.

Russia is and always has been set on world domination and their actions in Georgia these last few days are just the beginning of flexing their muscles on the world stage and no amount of lukewarm UN sanctions or shuttle diplomacy is going to change that fact.

Russia's newfound oil wealth will help finance the military they have only dreamed about since Ronald Reagan's all-out military buildup forced them to give up in the arms race.

In fact, their foray into Georgia could well be about controlling the oil there.

We are entering another Iron Curtain era, a much more dangerous one this time as America is forced to deal with the Islamic lunatic terrorists at home and abroad and with Afghanistan and Iraq on the table we are spread so thinly that we simply cannot commit a significant number of troops to another battlefield and Russia knows that.

The naive assumptions about Russia will come home to roost in the days to come as they become bolder and bolder and resort to the old Soviet trick of fomenting false provocations and quickly moving military force in to quell some farcical uprising they caused themselves.

They take over the country and leave behind what they'll call a peacekeeping but in essence is an occupying force.

And a word to my cherry picking friends, I know what you're thinking right about now. How can America say anything about Russia when we have gone into Iraq? There is a difference, a big one.

Russia is invading a freely elected democratic republic. We liberated Iraq from a murderous dictator who was funding terrorism and killing his own people, and America has no intention of occupying Iraq and making it part of the United States. You may think Russia has no intention of occupying Georgia but just sit back and watch.

There are few people in power these days who understand the devious Soviets, who understand that they do not respond to diplomacy and respect nothing but raw power. Reagan understood it, stood up to it and defeated it.

Russia has just been waiting to use the military they've built up over the days of not having to fight the Cold War. I predict that their aggression will continue, followed by their alliance with one Islamic nation after the other until they become a belligerent monolithic superpower who will attempt to take over the oil producing regions of the world.

Keep an eye on Russia. There's no telling how many countries will fall and how many people will suffer under their tyranny.

The day will even come when Russia and their newfound Islamic allies decide to destroy Israel.

But that's another story, best told in chapters 38 and 39 of the book of the prophet Ezekiel in the Holy Bible.

What do you think?

Pray for our troops

God Bless America
