The Future State of the Union

Many years ago, when President Reagan faced down the Russians with far superior weapons which Russia could not afford, at that time they couldn't even keep up with their military pay roll, Mikhail Gorbachev saw the ominous portent and as the Berlin Wall began crumbling, many in America, including prominent politicians, hailed it as a new day in Russia.

They started talking about a new American-Russian relationship, a new association based on mutual trust and benefit, a normalization of interaction involving commerce and at least a moderate form of democratization of the Russian political system.

And as the Russians pulled back from the Balkan countries and the old Soviet Union shrank, it appeared, at least to the vulnerable, that at last they were entering a new era of respecting human rights, ready to end the cold war and relax the nearly three quarters of a century nuclear tensions between it and the Western World.

But Russia invented the bait and switch, the art of deception, and where we Americans think in terms of months, the Russians think in terms of decades and are very patient in achieving their goals.

Russia, for all its bloody civil revolutions and decimating wars to shake off the Tsars has still maintained a monarchy of sorts, in that they never have a true representative government and are always ruled, sometimes from the shadows, by the person who can gather the most power around themselves, a ruthless strong man who will resort to whatever means necessary to maintain control.

As Gorbachev's perestroika came in, much of the old KGB and well connected political hierarchy took over energy, banking and most of the lucrative commercial endeavors in Russia, a short step from KGB thug to Russian Mafia thug and Vladimir Putin, by doing whatever it took, climbed to the top of the pile, where he remains today.

Russia is still a dictatorship, still bent on being the world's greatest military power and, at least in my estimation, still intent on reconstituting most of the old Soviet Union.

Vladimir Putin has no fear, no respect and no love for the Obama administration or for America for that matter. We have always been the fly in the Russian ointment.

Had it not been for a few strong Americans bolstering a sick and war weary president Roosevelt, Russia would have occupied all of Europe after the second world war, and anybody who thinks that the Russian taste for expansionism has been sated better think again, Ukraine and Crimea notwithstanding.

Putin's major problem, at least from where I see it, is that Russia basically has a one industry economy and when oil prices drop, so does the Russian military budget.

While ideological politicians and liberal journalists looked at the disbanding of the Soviet Union as the end of Russian aggression and the threat of mutually assured destruction, Russia was simply calling a time out, to let America and the western world breathe a little easier, lessen the emphasis on defense, and build up their own military technology and hardware.

Well, the bear is back, unmuzzled, belligerent and ready to reclaim what they consider Russia's rightful place at the head of the table and the timidity and reluctance of Obama to do anything more than verbally ask Putin to "cut it out" has done little to curb the new voracious Russian appetite.

There will be a new sheriff in town starting January 20 and as to what his attitude and response to Putin and Russia will be is, as yet, unknown, which is not surprising, since the Russian situation is continually in flux and requires a day to day assessment.

But if President-elect Trump does what he says and revitalizes the energy production in America, seriously reducing our dependence on any foreign imports, the world market will most likely continue the international oil glut, which is really bad news for the Russian economy.

He has also promised to rebuild and seriously strengthen our military which can't be comforting for Vladimir.

So, I look for Putin to be testing our new president in the very near future and first impressions are important.

Be interesting to see which way it goes.

What do you think?

Pray for our troops, our police and the peace of Jerusalem.

God Bless America

The Future State of the Union
I believe the Book of Daniel's and the Old Testament Major Prophets expounds much on future events concerning world events. Russia (the bear), still has an extreme lust for pre-eminence and domineering spirit. Of course that is the Spirit you get from a country that a whose leadership is athestic. I realize some evangelization took place from America to Russia when the Iron curtain was opened by Gorbachev. Some gospel seeds were planted, yet not enough to infiltrate the upper echelon of Russia. So we will experience and witness much brutal and raw luster from bear. I agree with you. Excellent portrait on Russia.

Trumping the Bear
Amen, Amen & Amen Charlie, you are spot on. I believe that President Trump will show unbelievable wisdom in dealing with Putin. It is just another liberal spin to try to portray Trump as soft on Putin. They ignore the facts that a hot mic caught Obama telling a high level Russian official that Russia just need to wait until after the 2012 elections so that Obama could have more flexibility. Or the time Hillary Russia a reset button to reset Russia and USA relations. Unfortunately the bunglingy Obamamites could not even translate reset and in read overload in Russian. God Bless Plowboy

The State of Russia
Charlie, I have very high regard for the National political knowledge you have been gifted by our Lord, & am also well aware you have been gifted Much World political knowledge. I see this big as a pretty good assessment regarding the state of Russia; I would assess Most just as you did. The only parts where my opinion is not exactly as yours At This Moment, are regarding the specs you happened to mention in the second & third paragraph--those specs which you feel may not really be as they seem, or may not be able to become a result, even with Trump in office (I hope you understand what I mean--you are much better that I in explaining things so they are understood). I have a friend (actually, he does, & has done most of my maint-type work, both biz & Res, for over twenty yrs), who was orig from/ raised in Slovakia, which was part of the Soviet Union when lived there. His parents, sister, brother, neices, & nephews still live there. He was at my house doing work just the other day, & I just happened to ask him his opinion on Trump, & also his opinion regarding Russia, basically his opinion on this Same topic! To note, this person has been a citizen of the USA for around 25 yrs (at least as long as I've known him, which was about five yrs prior to me having him do work for me), came here Legally, & has Worked Very Hard for as long as I've known him (always worked a 'real' job, full time, still working, never on the Dole--only did work for me 'on the side'), & he is Very intelligent. Also note that he & his family are Christians, & I remember him telling me yrs ago, that his family's Country 'wants nothing to do w/ Russia; basically, they 'hate' Russia'. That being said, this person is also a huge Trump supporter, voted for Trump, & said it had nothing to do w/ Trump's relation w/ Putin--it was because he worked all his life & is in disagreement w/ the politicians who give away all these 'entitlements' on his & my dime. However, when I asked him his & the Eastern European opinion on Putin (cuz he has contact w/ his family), & Trump in reaction to Putin, he said the opinion is not a strong one, But, it is a more positive one for Putin, & how things are in Eastern Europe Now, than it has been for most others, & that the economy & living conditions are better now than in the past, & currently, it's less stressful between the countries, like Slovakia, that broke from Russia, & Russia. He also said that the Current majority opinion of those in Eastern Europe, is one of HOPE (& those that are Chrstians over there believe the Lord May be performing a Miracle) that Putin, as well as all the Eastern European countries, will be able to create a 'New World' through a good Working Reationship w/ Trump & the USA, resulting in much trade & commerce initiatives between them, & the REAL HOPE OF THE PEOPLE (general population) in All the Eastern European countries, is that they All will eventually become ALLIES w/ each other & the USA. Charlie, I would like to read Your opinion on this if possible.

CD for secretary of Common Sense
At the very least, Trump should get CDB to perform at his inauguration. Then place him in a cabinet position.

Thoughtful and well said. Putin, and Russia by extension do not want America great again. God Bless You and those you hold dear, Mr. Daniels.

Russia and oil
I have long understood that Russia's oil reserves will be gone by 2022. Due to that her appetite for more power will grow and she is continually making alliances in the middle east to ensure future "food" for her oil appetites. This ensures her military will continue to be strong and supplied. Follow the money!

Putin.
I totally agree. I was born in 1960 and saw most of what you said. Just too young to do anything. Russia will always be the way they have always been. But they will conform to trick the world, then when someone strong climbs that pile of vile, they will be back the way they were. They only respect someone strong. Thanks for the voice Mr Charlie Daniels.

Russia
Charlie, you see through the BS with the clarity and simplicity of a citizen diplomat. But I implore you to watch Trump's behavior toward Russia. From slamming our intelligence community over Russian election meddling, to calling NATO into question, to suggest lifting sanctions, Trump is doing and saying things that Putin likes a lot. In fact he's beginning to look weaker towards Russia than Obama ever was. Watch him, Charlie, and call a spade a spade.
