Two Years Gone - Soapbox, Jr.

July 6, 2022

The second anniversary of dad “changing addresses.”

Twenty-four full months, but it still seems like it just happened a couple of months ago.

A bit of the fog has lifted, but there’s still a vacuum where he used to be.

I’m still trying to figure out how to find direction without our figurehead and driving creative force there, but we are making progress.

10 months ago I started The Charlie Daniels Podcast, and I’m currently working on my 25th episode which just so happens to drop on July 6, 2022.

In January, I decided that the podcasting process wasn’t complicated enough, so I made the jump to video with in-studio interviews with Chris Young, John Rich, Pastor Allen Jackson from the Daniels Family’s home church, Storme Warren, Rodney Atkins, and a second go-round with CDB roadie extraordinaire, Roger Campbell, all recorded in what is left of Twin Pines Studio.

We’ve also been working with CMG Worldwide, a company that represents the estates of many deceased celebrities, and through them we’ve been working on merchandise designs for retail through a company called American Classics Apparel. Lots of cool new designs which will hopefully be making their way to stores soon.

I’ve also been speaking with CMG Worldwide about some of dad’s stories and the potential for TV/Film adaptations, and some exciting possibilities for digital video content which we are exploring.

We are also finally getting around to releasing some previously unreleased material. About 5 years ago, I discovered some recordings from the very first Volunteer Jam in our studio vault, and my jaw about hit the floor.

On August 26th, a large portion of that first Jam will be released on CD and all streaming platforms as ‘Volunteer Jam 1 1974: The Legend Begins,’ on our label, Blue Hat Records, and currently, “Long Haired Country Boy” from that first Jam is streaming or available for download with iTunes, and a second single – a cover of Hank Williams’ “Jambalaya (On the Bayou)” will be released on July 15th and there will be also be a vinyl release in February.

Somehow, I ended up with a credit on the album as one of three “compilation producers,’ but the truth of the matter is, all I did was just be a cheerleader for these recordings to be released.

Speaking of vinyl, a vinyl release of the ‘Duets’ package that was released last fall is available for preorder through Walmart, who also had the CD exclusive. It’s a beautiful package and the vinyl is white. It’s quite striking.

Between the Sony vaults and what we have in what’s left of Twin Pines Studio, there is a lot more material to pull from, and more projects to be released for quite some time.

This is all exciting stuff, and a lot more opportunities than last year when we were still coming out of Covid and things were still a bit unclear as to where things were headed – in multiple ways – but there’s still the matter of a big hole in all of our hearts, none bigger than my mom and I.

I had hoped that dad would get to enjoy a whole new generation of fans discovering the music of that first Volunteer Jam. I wanted to see him hand out presents for Santa to give to the third generation of kids at the annual CDB Christmas party again.

I wanted him to meet the special lady in my life.

I want to ask him so many questions that I’ve had to try to fill in the blanks with regards to the CDB album soapboxes I’ve been writing.

I just want to hug his neck again and tell him that I love him.

And I want to tell him how proud I am to be his son, not because of his accomplishments, but because of who he was and still is, what he stood for, his love of country, our troops and our veterans.

And how I will always keep his legacy alive until I am no longer able.

You are loved and you are missed.

Let’s all make the day count.

What do you think?

Pray for our troops, our police, the Peace of Jerusalem and our nation.

God Bless America!

Remembering
Hello Charlie jr. and miss Hazel. Even though your used to the pain by now it doesn't hurt any less. I'm sorry someone felt the need to steal from your dad's grave, you've got to wonder how someone could do something that's so shameful and hurtful. I truly believe that whoever glued their memento to the marble wasn't meaning any harm, maybe their judgment was clouded due to grief and love for their own family member and love for your dad and country. I hope everyone in the cdb family is doing well. God bless ! Charlie, Tommy and TAZ. 🎻🎸🎹

Thank you.
Charlie, Thank you for sharing with us all these stories of your dad. I miss him so much. He was such a big influence in my life and I have turned my office into a CDB (almost) museum. They call me the Charlie Daniels guy down here at Camp Lejeune. Keep up the great work. It is well worth remembering your father. Thanks for putting out "new" music. God bless you and Hazel. I know it has been harder on you guys than anyone else, but believe me there and many out here that are still grieving the lost of your father. Most of all God bless America and Charlie Daniels Sr.

A big void in America
I saw the CD be the first time back in 78 in Clarkston Michigan at Pine knob music Theatre. Been a fan since uneasy Rider came out. With all the issues going on in the world right now, America needs Charlie Daniels. Was absolutely heartbroken to hear of his passing. God bless you Charlie Junior for what you’re doing. Enjoy your soapboxes.

Missing the big guy
2 years ago such sad news. Despite seeing CDB in concert at least 10 times, I would have gone 10 more. But I look forward to what's to be released and thank you for carrying on such a legacy.

Forever In Debt
I too still miss Charlie and the light he brought to this world. I was born and raised in small town Bell Buckle, Tennessee. I've listened to Charlies music since before I could walk, talk, or think. Hes been a role model my entire life and will be until Im gone. Because of Mr. Daniels I learned to play anything I could find with strings on it. The joy those activities have brought me along with his music is immeasurable. Charlie was the definition of a model American, a true patriot. Someone our very Founding Fathers smiled upon every day of his life. My personality, and my relationship with the Lord would be unrecognizable without the his influence. I was lucky enough to meet Charlie at my college campus, MTSU. He was signing his new book "Never Look At The Empty Seats". He was the kindest man I've ever met. I could type all day about the various joys he has brought me in my life time. I almost get lost in the memories every time. One thing I can say is I will forever be in debt to the greatest there ever was, Mr. Charlie Daniels.
