An Open Letter to Politicians

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I write this letter, laying aside any partisan political preferences I may have, any animosity I may feel toward either major party or individual member of any governing body, federal, state or local, as I would like to address you from the view point of a concerned, patriotic American, who has been blessed to, first of all, be born in this nation, to have experienced its unique opportunities and freedoms, and as one who is seriously concerned that our political process is about to go off the rails taking the greatest nation the world has never known with it.

I know that there are those who will say that my attempts are feeble, impotent and unrealistic as they perceive those of you in high elected positions to be insensitive to the wishes and fervent desires of those of us who put you in office.

And their opinions would not be without merit, but, as a concerned citizen, I will continue, in hopes that there are a few of you whose conscience, love of country and mutual concern for its welfare would cause you to harken back to the days when your honest ideals were most important and your heart was set on accomplishing the security, prosperity, prestige and the legacy of the America we pass on to succeeding generations.

It is not my intention to insult or defame any individual but will chop the log and let the chips scatter where they may.

Now down to business.

First of all, the majority of you have deserted public service for party service, your allegiance lies with the "R" or "D" beside your name and not with the nationality on your birth certificate. Your intransigence and partisan stubbornness, your absolute fear that the other party may be given credit for accomplishment, actually, and this is tantamount to pseudo treason in my book, you let America suffer to advance your accursed party.

Second, continuing your political career has become your shining obsession and you'll do anything in your power to make it happen. You stoop to any means, legitimate or not, knowing that the narrative you push is totally false and, in the process, hurt innocent people and shove the opposing sides even further apart.

And in many cases, I feel your conscience is seared past the point of even feeling remorse, which is extremely dangerous because with the conscience goes the humanity.

Your political position and the influence of your party have become your gods as you forsake the righteous standards of honesty and fairness and worship at the altar of power and control.

And now, to the crux of the situation. It's been said many times by many people and it's as true today as it has ever been in our 200 plus year history, a nation divided cannot stand.

And yet, you grown, educated, urbane, supposedly reasonable people, theoretically motivated by the overwhelming desire to advance the causes of a nation, not a political party or a personal career, refuse to go into a room somewhere and, by advice, consent, reasonable compromise and common sense, work out your differences, hammer out legislation that reflects the results and get on with the business at hand.

But no, there is no media in private meetings, and that won't do, so you take your partisan jabber, complete with leaks, jibes, name calling and innuendo in front of a bank of television cameras and regale them with how unfair and stubborn the other side is, when it could be your side being intransigent, stubborn and unfair.

Truth matters little to you, public perception is everything, or you can just win the media wars you can chalk up one for your side, and that's all that matters, national interests be damned.
You have been lying to America for decades, making promises you have no intention of fulfilling, supporting legislation you don't believe in just because your party bosses tell you, or in some cases, force you to.

When somebody in your party gets into trouble you circle the wagons, not for any great love for the person, but because of their party affiliation. But if it's somebody in the opposing party you pour on the gasoline and strike the match, not caring how much the fire burns up as long as the flames stay off of your patch, innocence and guilt be damned.

Well, let me tell you something ladies and gentlemen, the pedestal you have built for yourselves is made of clay, the people you sell your integrity for have no loyalty and would dump you in a cesspool and let you drown if it was expedient for them or the party to so-so.

You have been unfaithful to your oath of office, you've sold out your constituency, your nation and the future of your children and have allowed, what was once an honorable profession to become the occupation of prostitutes and shysters. Back room deal makers, worn out, jaded caricatures of young men and women who came to public service with stars in your eyes and a sincere desire to make a difference.

Well, the glitter of the rewards and the prestige and advantages of belonging to the "the club" wore you down and to plagiarize the Bard, you've become, "… a poor player who struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more… full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

What do you think?

Pray for our troops, our police and the peace of Jerusalem.

God Bless America

— Charlie Daniels

Deeper Than D or R
Amen, Amen & Amen Charlie you are correct in your statements here, but I believe it goes much deeper. These people have a much bigger agenda, called the New World Order. That is why the Bush's never criticized Obama, they are on the same team. Trump being a true patriot who wants to make America great, is against everything they are for and George has had plenty criticism for Trump, yet zero for Obama during his term. Just like the big gun debate raging right now, these people don't care about how many people are killed by the drug crazed psycho's that the government helps supply their drugs. All that they care about is disarming me and you so that they can carry out their agenda, just like Hitler did in Germany and Mao did in China.nuff said God Bless Plowboy

We can impact those being elected and those already in office. To change things by doing something to end the need for campaign finance reform, term limits and rid DC of large money lobbyist firms and the involvement of billionaire donors, we can involve the electorate daily in legislation anonymously and change how fast legislation moves forward. We can also secure the voting process while reducing it's cost and securing it while validating each voter. All of this can be done without legislation or Presidential order. We can finally be the Country of The People. 2 A.R.

It is admirable
Dear Mr. Daniels, I write to you from Mexico, this letter is really touching. What you write also we should tell the Mexican politicians, many of them unscrupulous people who only think about business, money and power, that's why my country is as it is. Now I do not only love your music, now I also admire your ideas. God bless America, God bless Mexico and God bless you.

It is always easy to make the right choice when you are not the one involved but, really, you can complain about Bill Clinton's philandering but what about Donald Trump? What about Roy Moore? You can complain about Adam Schiff but what about Devin Nunes? You make fun of the way Chuck Schumer looks but what about Mitch McConnell? Conservatives like Charlie often think there is no need for compromise. The truth is that is what our country is built on. Democrats and Republicans do not agree on a lot of issues. Does that mean that, if something needs to get done, they just sit and glare at each other? Does it mean that Democrats just throw up my hands and do whatever Trump tells them to do? No, It means they compromise. They make a deal. They figure out an arrangement that they can both live with. On the bad side, it means you have to listen to people you do not like. On the good side, it means that you do not have to overthrow the government by force every ten years. That is America, Charlie. Treasure it.

My opinion
I agree with your words. I've always said ,even if you favor one party, you should look at each candidate individually and vote for the best one.

It's about time both sides are called out for being low life scum bags. The problem is not just the politicians,it's the people who vote for them. The mentality of most people is you are either R or D we're right they're wrong and it's my way or the highway. If one side has a great idea or solution, the other side will not have it. Everyone casts the first stone and sins like no tomorrow before the stone lands. The red and blue together have destroyed . the Red White and Blue. Do away with the R and D and replace them with America's party comprised of farmers, teachers, coal miners etc. Real people who know what life is all about.

Charlie's letter
Thank you Charlie Daniels for your extremely accurate description of today's, as well as a lot of recent, politicians. Since our society has almost thoughly removed God from all aspects of our lives, this country has turned itself over to the opposition, ie. evil. Some of the people in power have commited audacious and horrible crimes, and have gone unmolested and unchecked, having none of their atrocities brought to light, with a culpable media in bed with them. Enemies of our country have been brought here by a so called leader to destroy our country from within. I fear the America we lovr is gone, and what's left is on an uncontrolled slippery slope into hell. I feel like God is the only one who can save us from our inevitable end, and since no one is asking his opinion any more, much less his help, all bets are off.

Response to those who didn't get the point
It seems like several of the posters just are too blind to get the point Charlie. They stick to their former Party lines and our Nation be damned.

Term limits now
The citizen legislators our system requires have been replaced by career politicians. The career politicians trade political favor for campaign money for the next election. The majority of incumbents win because of money not because of idea clearity. Term limits - two terms an you are out, would help drastically.

The Winds of Change
"The citizen legislators our system requires have been replaced by career politicians." John Adams was a delegate to the First and Second Continental Congresses, envoy to France, minister to the Netherlands, minister to the Court of St. James, vice-president, then president. Thomas Jefferson was a delegate to the Second Continental Congress, governor of Virginia, delegate to the Congress of the Confederation, minister to France, secretary of state, vice president, and president. Seems like a couple of career politicians. But you know what is especially funny? When Obama became president, one of the right's biggest complaints was that he had no experience. Now, they want people with absolutely no experience and are pleased they found someone with absolutely no idea how the government works or what the law of the land is. Go figure.

Truth
You speak wisdom my friend. It has been said before but politics was not ment to be a full time profession. Term limits and no special benefits. On a happier note if I could only own 10 albums for the rest of my life Fire on the Mountain would be in the top 5. You should add Firefighters to your "Pray for" ending. Keep fighting the good fight. 👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Cherokee County GA Requesting Support
I echo your comments Mr. Daniels. I have decided to run for a school board seat due to the lack of transparency my county school district is exhibiting by supporting the National School Walkout and portraying it as a memorial service instead of what it really is, a second amendment protest. Our current school board is 100 percent Republican and I cannot get any of them to respond to parents' concerns regarding this issue. I support the first amendment, but the lack of transparency to what our students are being subjected to is not acceptable. I feel that I have to at least give my best effort to provide true conservatives a voice. If I win there will be at least one "R" doing the right thing for the right reason.

contributions
In this forum, it is clear that you are unhappy with the United States system. So, how do you use your power as an entertainer to persuade people to contribute and make a change?

Set up for failure
Looking at the Congress from the outside, it seems as if it is set up to foment self progression and partisan voting. After all, each party has an assigned whip that tries to get people to vote for their party, and it can come extremely close to coercion if not. Also, these politicians need to get large voting bases and need to pander to the majority because they are fighting for a job. If they're not reelected, they are unemployed. I cannot really think of a way to solve this issue, as it may just be an effect of our Republic. But to me, these core issues have to be addressed before real bipartisan bills can be passed faster and more efficiently.

Thanks
We’re tricked and lied to, we have 80 US representives, and 20 US senators who support or are members of socialists, Muslim brotherhood, and communist party. If you go on a politicians website there is no mention of this! We have enemies within our country! Be frosty

Well said Mr. Daniels. I hope one person in office reads your letter. It takes only one person to set out country on a better course for our children. A human not a party. I thankyou for a glimpse of hope.

Deeper than R&D
Well said Charlie! You are absolutely correct. I believe the whole political system are on the same team team government vs team American citizens. I also believe that is whyvbth sides are fighting President Trump. He's not playing for their team, he's trying to play for team America. Susan
